Day #327

Can I laugh? Can I cry? Can I stop packing, pretty please?
I can do this no more.

Today Claire and I spent a good part of the day with Enzo, among other things we had lunch at Trattoria - yes, the very same restaurant where I used to work. Oh, my! I had penne al salmone and they tasted SO good.
I officially introduced myself as Enzo's niece over the phone to his friend Riccardo, whom we're staying at while in Sydney and said my last goodbyes to Tony and Davina. Davina was yet again so sweet, not to be mean or anything, but she's such a different person when she's not your boss!!!!

Later in the day, we went downtown to meet Claire's friends Elena and Marta and once home we started packing. Or at least, I meant to start packing and ended up looking up on YouTube clips of the Disney's Frozen movie. Procrastinating, I'm doing it right.
Now it's midnight and I'm not sure I'm any closer to be done yet. Jeez, I hate packing.

Posso ridere? Posso piangere?

Day #326

Apparently Enzo did it. I mean, we have a room at his friends place for when we are in Sydney. I'll pose as his niece whilst Claire is going to be his recently dumped girlfriend! Ahahaha I think he was joking about the last part, but I'll have to memorize name of relatives and family anecdotes for real!

Today I paid for and hence confirmed my surf lessons and the bus tours for when I'll be in NZ. Wallet feels definitely lighter, but I'm so excited about it all!!!! I cannot push myself to think of it as a waste of money, because there's little other I'd rather do instead!

Day #325

Everything hurts.
I would say the back of my left knee is what hurts the most - I have this really pretty angry-red patch there that totally matches with my.. nothing. And it hurts. Oh, my, does it hurt.
Shouldn't complain too out loud, though. Claire's far worse than I am, so today it was me who went out on a quest to the local pharmacy and got something for very bad sunburns. (Spoiler alert: it's not that effective.)

I also took care of more stuff for my journey, even though I'm going tomorrow downtown to finalize the bus tours and surf course.
Today I sort out half of a drama, as well. The said half consisted in me being left with no accomodation for my stay in Melbourne after Claire leaves on the 6th. Don't worry, now I do have a place to stay, thanks to Ashlee. (Yep, Karen's daughter.)
See, I was supposed to crash at my friend Jess' place for a short while, as I did when I visited Melbourne back in June. Unfortunately, she and her family won't be home at all for the next two weeks and that leaves me with nowhere to go. Ash is moving to Melbourne in those very days and, God bless her!, she said I can stay with her for the first three nights. After that, I'm going down south towards the Great Ocean Road, where I'll follow some surf classes and visit the area for another three days. This will leave me with just one day left in Victoria before my flight Auckland-bound.

Second half of the drama is not looking as good, yet. (Key word: yet. I have to find a way to make this work, no matter how.) Enzo (Yep, the pasta guy) hasn't confirmed us whether we can stay at his friends house when we are in Sydney, yet. And I mean, it's kind of - I don't know - unsettling, knowing that we're arriving there in three days. I hate this uncertainty: it's making me feel uneasy and powerless. Hopefully, this thing will turn around for the better. It has to.

Day #324

Guys! I'm sorry!!! I got a little bit side-tracked as I was booking the last few things for my trip to New Zealand next month.

Wow! What a day!!!
I hate to be a tease, but I'll tell you more tomorrow! It's quarter past two in the morning and even though I did sleep a lot today, both at the beach (Yes! Plot twist: I left Brisbane for the day.) and on the train, and don't really feel sleepy at the moment, I think I'd best force myself to bed now.

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

Claire and I decided to go to Stradbroke Island, this morning. As you may remember, I had already visited and enjoyed walking along its north shore a lot. With Claire, though, we decided to just enjoy the day at the beach.

After some bus and train disadventures - the cosmo clearly didn't want us to go on Straddie - we got to Cleveland all right and from there we got the ferry to the island. I was more confident this time, knowing exactly what I was doing and where I was going.
Once on the island, we jumped on the bus and drove to Point Lookout. We chose Main Beach as our sunbathing spot and after applying loads of sunblock, we laid down and possibly fell asleep. We were really tired throughout the day, as I was telling you. The water was cool at start, but after you jumped in, it felt just about the right temperature and it was perfect to cool down!
Once we left the beach looking for somewhere to grab a sandwich, we did realize we got a little bit sun burnt here and there, but it was only when confronted with sitting and wearing clothes that we fully understood how badly we were scorched.

We didn't let that stop us, though! We didn't got back to the beach, but we did the Gorge walk - nothing too intense, just fifteen minutes in the shades. We saw a huge turtle swimming in the gorge and a kangaroo eating on the slope. Last time I hadn't been half as lucky with wildlife!

Journey home was painful and putting after sun cream on was even worse. Ouch!

Scusatemiiiiiiiiii!!!

Ahia!

Day #323

Merry Christmas, y'all!!!

It had a slow start and it seemed to get even slower when I was picking out what to wear, but as soon as I got to Karen's, things started to look up.
It was really nice and very traditional with turkey roast, leg ham and trifle - an Australian dessert with jelly, custard and sponge cake. Karen's mother and brother where there too, as well as Isaac, Ashlee's boyfriend.
It was great spending the holidays in a family as I can't spend them with my own; besides Karen, Tony, Ash and Casey have always been so very welcoming and nice to me! For Christmas they got me some New Zealand dollar notes, to get started on my trip and also a calendar with stunning pictures of Australian landscapes.

Later I stopped by at Paolo and Sabrina's. Alberto was there too, as well as Claire - not the one I live with at the moment - Luca and baby Antonio. A small serve of pasta and wine were the best way to fill the little room I had left in my belly.

Once home, I Skyped with my family back home gathered at my Grandma's place. I miss them.

Buon Nataleeeeeeeee!!!

Day #322

Christmas' Eve!!!!
Today Claire and I went to Toombul Shopping Centre to go to a beauty salon, after all, in one week we'll be wearing our bikinis in Bondi!
We also did some window shopping and roamed around. Nothing too special.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: it doesn't really feel like Christmas this year.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow and celebrating with Karen's family. May it be they'll knock some Christmas spirit into me before the day's gone.

Day #321

[My apologies, yesterday night we had a little party and I wouldn't have been able to type anything afterwards.]

It was a good day! I jumped on the City Cat - remember, Brisbane's river ferries - and cruised up the river to the CBD.
There I went to a travel agent and collected some informations on New Zealand deals and tours. After that, I met with Franco, Enzo's friend from the markets, at the Treasury Casino and we had coffee together. As usual, it was good to catch up and share the holidays wishes.

You already know about the "party" we had at our place. At some stage, during the night, I had a couple of buckets of water thrown at me to, let's say, make sure I wouldn't fall asleep on the table.

Day #320

Today I went to bring my Christmas wishes to Tony and Davina at the restaurant. Tunda was there too. It was beautiful to meet everybody after this long! Kyle is not working there anymore and this is going to be Tunde's last week, so Davina was telling me about all the changes that are coming up!
I had breakfast with her and we talked a lot, sharing the stories of the past few months.
A lot of our regulars send me their wishes and say hi. They say they missed me. :) Awwww.
Graham, one of the said regulars, was there and he sat at our table and chatted with us.

I had a quiet afternoon, trying to figure out what to do in the next few days, namely tomorrow, and failed to make up my mind. I'm torn in between spending a shitload of money on stuff I'm not really sure I want to do but would be a shame to miss, or just don't give a damn and party.

Day #319

Typing from Claire's place in Hamilton.
Yay, Claire's!!! She's just as messed up as I remembered, and I'm so glad to be back to hanging around with her again!!! :D

This morning I woke up very early, like at 5:30am - stupid time difference between NSW and QLD. It wasn't nice. Hopefully I'll adjust soon enough to both Brisbane time and temperature.
Today it was hot.

Tony drove me to Claire's place and then the two of us went inspecting houses, as she's looking into moving to another unit. One was old and small and it blew, even though it had a (dirty) swimming pool; the other one was huge and on two floors and reasonably cheap and if everything goes right, she might be moving there next month.

Once back at Claire's, I undid my luggage. (On a side note, undoing one's bags is just as awful as doing them.)
I also cut some old t-shirts and turned them in Australian-style tops, shortening their length by a good 5cm and removing the sleeves - and a big part of the sides, as well. There's very little left, truly. But they'll be perfect for summertime in Oz.

I had dinner with Sabri at the Container Markets, right past Portside Wharf, where ship containers have been converted to market and food stands. We had crêpes and I also had ice-cream, oops!
It was really nice to catch up with her, we had so many stories to share.

Day #318

OMG! Feels like ages since I last wrote a blog post on here!!! Kind of glad to be back.

As you may well know, if you've been following my Facebook page, today I left Orange and got back to Brisbane.
This morning with Chisa and Dee, after saying goodbye to Charlie and Loretta, I took the train back to Sydney. It was nice sharing with them part of the trip. Naturally, as we got to Central, everyone went her own way, but having lunch together one last time was good and I didn't feel as lonely as I would have, had I left the vineyard by myself.

Tony came and picked me up at Brisbane's airport and now I'm typing from Karen's place. Ash is here as well.
Even though I might have been a little sad for saying goodbye to my vineyard friends, seeing old dear faces once again was beautiful! I'm so happy to be here and I can't wait to meet all my other friends!

It still doesn't really feel like Christmas to me, though. It could be (a) the unbearable heat - man, Brisbane is far worse than Orange, in case you were wondering, and I was baking the half hour I spent in Sydney railway station; (b) the lack of Christmas decorations at the vineyard. At Karen's place, with a really pretty tree and garlands and lights and beauty, it is easier to feel the holidays approaching, but I mean, we are speaking of five (FIVE!!) days till Christmas! O.o Where the rest of December went?!

Omioddio!
