- RECAP Week 5 -

Friday, 18 October 2013 - Day #255
You may or you may not have heard of the big bushfire still burning in the Blue Mountains at this very hour. Here in Orange we are some 150km away, however there was smoke all over the place this morning and it grew thicker as the day drew on. Problem is it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

Loretta and Charlie have been, once again, very busy with Wine Week events. To me, that meant I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have wished to in town (read 'at the library, on the internet'), so I apologize if I were supposed to answer your emails. I'll do that as soon as I have a chance.

Saturday, 19 October 2013 - Day #256
Among today's adventures, cleaning more wine glasses - seems like that's what Wine Week is all about for me - and chasing a little lost lamb up at the dam paddock. As Charlie moved the flock this afternoon, one little lamb was left behind and we had to bring it back to the others. First we had to catch it, though! It was good fun! Charlie dived on the grass and caught it by a leg: quite impressive! I got to hold it, the cute little thing, in my lap as we were driving to the other paddock!!!

Sunday, 20 October 2013 - Day #257
Today is my sister's birthday!!!! Happy birthday Simo!

At the vineyard we washed more glasses and got the job ready for tomorrow. We opened up the irrigation pipes ends to get rid of all the ants/spiders/dirt that got accumulated since last vintage.

Oggi è il compleanno di mia sorella!! Tanti auguri Simo!

Monday, 21 October 2013 - Day #258
Back to de-suckering! God, I missed that (I had to explain to Ray I was being sarcastic).
Later in the afternoon we went downtown with Loretta. At Union Bank Wine Bar throughout the Wine Week they have free wine tasting. Today it was chardonnays of the Orange region and camembert cheese. Yummy!!

Oggi abbiamo ripreso col desuckering (potare i germogli e i rametti sanguisuga).
Buonissimo!!

Tuesday, 22 October 2013 - Day #259
Internet is torturing me today! It has been raining on and off all day - which is good for the vines and the bushfires, not so much for my cellphone service. Hopefully this will get posted according to plans.
Today I helped Charlie in the barrels room. We topped up the barrels. Long story short, you do not want oxygen in your barrels, but, at the same time you can't avoid evaporation through the lists of timber, so every ten to fourteen days you top the barrels up, to make up for the empty space.

Uh! Almost forgot mentioning it: today is a month I'm in Orange!!! Time has flown!!!

Dannata lenta connessione a internet!

Wednesday, 23 October 2013 - Day #260
Another day of desuckering. In the afternoon, Loretta and I joined Charlie at the Union Bank, where a pinot noir tasting was being held.
I spent the rest of the night reading. The book I'm currently on is trash, but I just can't put it down.

Thursday, 24 October 2013 - Day #261
Today it was freezing in the vineyard. You remember when I said I'd rather work with cold wind than with flies? Yeah, today was the case, even if I might have regretted the flies a couple of times.
