Day #99

Going to sleep in the next 10 minutes because.. sleepiness.
Today I
- woke up fairly early to meet up with Jess and have breakfast at the Vanilla Pod up on Lancaster Rd. I had scones with raspberry jam and cream like last time because it's just so good. Pretty much it was the birthday breakfast I did not get on Sunday. We agree we will be back at the café in the afternoon next time, so we can get one of their sparkly cupcake - gosh, I'm such a sucker for sweets.

- rode the bus with Jess, then she left for work and I went to the Queensland Museum in South Bank. My favourite room was probably the one about the life of sea turtles. They had beautiful plastics and walking around the room you could follow the likely ''story'' of the little turtles that hatched right next to the entrance of the room. I had to skip the last panel because it was about turtle poachers and what they do with the carapaces and - jeez, just thinking about it now gives me the creeps, so yeah, I skipped that and walked away quickly from the room. I also liked the Collectomania exposition: licence plates, pineapple themed gadgets, teapots, a model of Bilbo's hobbit hole, all collected through the years by obsessed and weird Queenslanders; the collection of butterflies, in the biodiversity section, was pretty as well, though the window about spiders was awful and I deliberately stayed clear of the one dedicated to snakes.
- had a normal day at the restaurant but got pretty good tips. I'm dreading tomorrow's 10 to 15 shift. I just hope there won't be too many people asking for coffees.

Ps. Today is Claire's birthday! Happy birthday Claire!!! We miss you!

- mi sono alzata piuttosto presto per incontrarmi con Jess per colazione al Vanilla Pod su Lancaster Rs. Ho preso uno 'scone' con marmellata di lamponi e panna montata come l'ultima volta, perché sono semplicemente divini! Diciamo che questa è stata la colazione che non ho fatto il giorno del mio compleanno. Abbiamo deciso di ritornarci un'altra volta, di pomeriggio, quando è socialmente accettabile abbuffarsi di tutte le torte e cupcakes brillantinati che vendono - mamma mia, quanto amo i dolci!

- ho preso il bus con Jess per andare in centro. Poi lei è andata al lavoro, mentre io sono andata al Queensland Museum che si trova a South Bank di fianco alla galleria d'arte. La mia sala preferita è stata probabilmente quella dedicata al ciclo di vita delle tartarughe. Dove dei plastici a dimensione naturale mostravano la probabile 'storia' delle tartarughine che erano uscite dalle uova subito a fianco dell'entrata alla sala. Mi sono dovuta fermare all'ultimo pannello e saltarlo completamente perché era a riguardo dei bracconieri e di quello che fanno coi carapaci delle tartarughe e - cavolo, solo a pensarci ora mi ritornano i brividi. Che mostri - non sono riuscita a gettargli più di mezz'occhiata. Mi è anche piaciuta l'esposizione chiamata Collectomania: targhe di macchine, ananas riprodotte su qualsiasi tipo di oggetto, teiere, un modellino della casa di Bilbo Baggins, tutti collezionati negli anni da alcuni strani e ossessionati abitanti del Queensland; la collezione di farfalle, nella sezione dedicata alla biodiversità, era carina pure lei, la vetrina dei ragni invece era inquietante e sono stata attenta a stare ben alla larga da quella dei serpenti.
- è stata una giornata piuttosto regolare al lavoro, ma mi hanno dato alcune buone mance, quindi anche meglio. Ho paura per domani, quando avrò il turno dalle 10 alle 15 da sola. Speriamo solo che non ci siano troppe persone con la voglia di caffè domani!
