Day #54

When I was a kid I used to play this mental game every year around Easter time. I would try to find a correspondance between the stages of Jesus' passion and the weather. Dark clouds after three o'clock on Good Friday, dull sky on Saturday, a ray of sunshine on Sunday morning, anything really would have had a meaning to me. Now, this makes me realize I've always been kind of weird, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make - I was reminded of this little game by the glorious sun I woke up to today!
Happy Easter, to all of you who celebrate it!

I served breakfast at the restaurant this morning and had the whole afternoon off.
Most of it I spent it managing and writing emails with the girls I'm in contact with for sharing the room after Claire's departure. I placed an ad on this site called Gumtree that works pretty much for anything, from finding a nanny to selling an old swing set, and since I received a couple of answers I was explaining to the candidates about the accomodation, the king size bed and all. I mean, I'd love to have myself as a roommate, sleeping in the same bed would be the least of the problems, I mean, I'm actually at my best in my sleep: it's the only time I can actually manage to shut up for good! But yeah, for a stranger I see how it must sound like. That's why I want to meet this girls maybe over a coffee and show them the place so they can decide if they want us, me and Kingsy - I just made the name of the bed up.

Out of topic, my feet are hurting so bad! At the restaurant I'm wearing Claire's black sneakers and I'm afraid they might be too tight in the point! I mean, I'm full of blisters and they hurt so much! Today I found one on my left little toe that *ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*If you are easily grossed out you might want to stop reading NOW - that totally reminds me of Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame! Gross! Where's a needle when you need one?!*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*
Anyway, as soon as I get a morning off I'm heading downtown to get some proper shoes, in the meantime I sincerely hope Quasimodo will die - I swear I didn't make his name up just now, I talked about it over Skype with my parents, because I'm totally gross and talk about this kind of things, and named it at that time.

Day #53

Ok, let's try this thing. I'm typing in my afternoon break for a change, since I'm afraid I'll be too tired tonight after another shift at the restaurant.

So, as I mentioned yesterday, I worked this morning too because on weekends we serve breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. We had quite a busy morning, but I like being busy, keeps me focused and, truth to be told, I'd rather jog a little from the kitchen to the tables than stand at the entrance waiting for new customers doing nothing.

I still have tons to learn, of course, especially for what concerns the end-of-the-day procedures and the wines, but I'm already pretty knowledgeable about the table disposition and what is offered on the menus after only a couple of days.

I like Davina and Tony, the owners, and I like even more having something to do. You know, of course at the end of the day I've been useful and done my job for my employers, but remembering the name of the child of these regular customers after only assisting them once last Thursday, that is something I do for the them, for ''my'' patrons and something I do for me as well. It makes me feel good to know they feel appreciated and cared for. God, I love this side of my job. It's what I loved in Hilton most as well.

I have two fellow colleagues, Tunda and Kyle. I didn't really have a chance to know him, because we worked together only on Thursday night and we were so busy we hardly had time to introduce to one another. But he managed to tell me he comes from South Africa - another item on my To-Visit List - and that he has some Italian origin.
Tunda, on the other hand, is Hungarian and she has been so helpful to me. She's the one I always go to if I have some question on a standard or a dish or I don't know where to find something. She has been very patient with me and since the very first trial she has always been very nice answering me whenever I had something on my mind.

Ok, it's already time for me to get ready to go back to the restaurant. I'll close this entry with a very nice piece of news: this morning I got the tips from Thursday and today and it was more than $30 :D NICE. I know I shouldn't be too eager around money, but you know, I kind of have to pay for my rent on a weekly basis, so yeah.

Ok, proviamo quest'altra cosa.

Day #52

Sorry, but I'm going to bed early tonight, tomorrow I'll have to start at 8 at the restaurant, because we open for breakfast as well over this weekend.

We had a quite sunny day today. Claire and I read more from Catching Fire and chilled out in the afternoon.

Day #51

I should probably take a shower instead of writing this entry, but.. yeah, just let me go get a shower.

*ten minutes later*
I can't feel my back anymore! Well, this last statement is incorrect: as a matter of fact, I feel my back way too much for my own likings! Why must it be this sore?
Davina, one of the owners of the restaurant I work for, came to me tonight as I was mopping the floor and told me we'll have to work on my floppy biceps. Great. She actually poked my arm to assess that.

Today on the floor I mainly followed a function, this group of 11 people were celebrating three birthdays. It felt almost like being back in Hilton, the personalized service, the smiling and all. It felt good. Also, the compliments I got sounded terribly like those I used to get in Hilton, which is awesome: I love making people happy.

So, all in all, today was a really good day, I even read a book. Nothing too demanding or engaged, just a nice story to read. I found out too late the original version is in French - I might look for that some time in the future for practicing, anyway, it's called Fish Change Direction in Cold Weather by Pierre Szalowski.

Day #50

You know those times when you are so tired you don't have enough strength to undress and take a shower, but at the same time you know you stink and that a shower will make you feel better so you just wait and procrastinate turning on your laptop, checking your fb, email, Pottermore, Polyvore, DeviantArt, John Green's and Lord Voldemort's tweets, John and Hank Green's Tumblrs, YouTube, Mockingjay.com, Google+ and end up writing a blog entry?

I need to go get a shower. Bye.

*Gets back after the shower*
Today I opened and closed the restaurant and was alone  -with the occasional help of one of the owners - on the floor to take orders and serve the food and drinks to the customers.
If I haven't been clear enough yesterday, I got employed as waitress, but my duties include setting the place up with tables, chairs and all at the opening and put everything back in at the end of every day, sweep and mop the floors.
I will tell you more next time I am not so tired.

Day #49

It took me 49 days, but I eventually got a job!
Sorry if I've been so elusive lately. I didn't want to disappoint anyone if I didn't get it in the end, so I just preferred to keep quiet about it. Today I had my third and last trial - had another one last Tuesday and Saturday - in this Italian Restaurant on Racecourse Rd. and at the end of the shift they handed me the paperwork to fill out and sign that meant I did it, I passed the first test!
At the moment I'm kind of tired exhausted. I will tell you more in the next days. But yeah, this is pretty great. I feel pretty great.

Day #48

Such a long day! Today Claire and I went downtown. She arranged to meet her friends Yooni and Ale in Fortitude Valley - the same district where Brisbane's China Town is, because Ale is leaving Australia (perhaps) for good in a couple of days and she wanted to say goodbye. Also, although we try not to speak about it, Claire is leaving soon as well, hence she's trying to reach all her old friends.

I had such a good time! Ale told us about woofing and his experience in the farms in Tazmania and around Oz. It sounded so adventurous!! He's seen so many places: the pictures he showed me looked just like beautiful postcards! He said he met plenty of awesome and helpful people and had so much fun hitchhicking! Now, though I do have some reserve on the latter, I would love to just set on the road and travel! I might even decide to do that if I find somebody crazy enough to come with me or don't find anything here in Brisbane.

Urban Dictionary on 'woofing':
When a young person throws caution to the wind, rejects their material possessions and travels the world working on organic farms for the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms organization. They pay for the plane ticket, but then have free room and board in exchange for back breaking labor on an organic farm.
- dirty hippie farming - slave labour - cheap way to travel -
Besides, three months of woofing would allow me to apply for a second year of Working Holiday Visa.

When Ale left to catch his train to the airport, Claire, Yooni and I, we walked to the Botanic Gardens and had lunch there. We packed some pasta, pizza and apples before leaving the house, so we had plenty. We talked about books, movies, learning English and had a really pleasant afternoon! The park was beautiful and we were surrounded by greenery. Way too many people were out jogging and having fitness sessions though.

Later, Claire made plans to meet yet one other friend of hers, Sophie, the Italian girl who used to live with Paolo, Sabri and Claire last (australian) summer. We met in South Bank and splashed our feet in the open-air public swimming pools they have there. She will be leaving in two weeks on a van with a friend of hers to go and work on farms. They have no clue where they'll end up, the destination isn't really important to them at the moment. They are mainly focusing on ''refurbishing'' the second-hand van they just bought and making the last arrangements for their trip.
We went for a drink at the Beach House, this pub downtown, and ordered a jug of beer so that Claire could get a discount on a steak. Just kidding, we didn't know about the steak, but when they gave us the coupon and we saw the steaks coming, she kind of decided to go for an early dinner.

We took our bus inbound at 9:45 this morning and re-entered the house at 7:45PM. But the weather was glorious, I visited places in Brisbane I'd never been to and met so many nice friends of Claire's today! So, all in all, I had a great day!

ps. Just a taste of how small Brisbane is: guess who we met in the hostel Ale was staying at? Eva! Sabrina's friend whom I met on Day #11. I knew she worked in a Backpackers' but it was a real surprise to see her again!
Che giornata infinita! Oggi Claire e io siamo andate in città.

Ci siamo attrezzate a casa, portandoci dietro pasta fredda, pizza e mele, quindi eravamo a posto.

Day #47

LAZY SUNDAAAAAAAAY
Against the tradition, I woke up fairly early to get my palm leaf at the Catholic Church around the corner. Oh, by the way, for the first time they had like a REAL CHOIR - like those Gospel Choir in Italy you only see in movies and it was awesome! I mean, they had no wonderful singers or anything, it was just their passion and the setting - the church is no big Cathedral, mind - and maybe the fact that I'm reading To Kill A Mockingbird and all that made it so perfect!

Then I did some reading - have I mentioned you I love reading? - and in the early afternoon, once again defying traditions, I set to bake some cupcakes. Worst decision couldn't ever be taken.
Not only did I make a fool of myself - I was so focused when pouring the mixture in the moulds I might have as well been performing a brain surgery; but I got the instruction completely wrong too!! I mean, I kind of messed up tsp and tbsp - we do not have them in Italy - and got an extremely liquid icing. Yeah, I might as well mention the fact that the cupcakes were baked in muffin moulds, so they didn't turn out quite the shape they were supposed to AND that I'd better have left them in the oven some minutes longer. Oh, well. We never stop learning from our mistakes, do we?

Now, I'm going to finish my book, if you don't mind.

ps. Had dinner with Paolo, Sabri and Luca Beicapelli. It was soo good! We had a taste of some of the delicacies Paolo imports from Italy: cheese, salami, tuna and many different vegetables in oil. Everything tasted delicious!

Gnam!

Day #45

Hi. This post isn't the real thing. I mean, today happened so little that you probably won't even care. I started - and am now halfway through - To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. So far it's awesome. I wonder why it took me so long to pick it up, and I mean, even in Italy it is considered a classic! I should have read it before, but at least I'm glad I'm doing it now.

I watched Glee today. I loved Darren's/Blaine's songs - man, he's just so talented! - and the Spice Girls number was cool. TBBT released no new episode this week and I'm mourning. Just kidding, you know by now I'm a drama queen. But yeah, I'll have to wait 2 weeks for something new.

For those of you familiar with Disney's Beauty and the Beast, today I had a flash: just like Belle, I find myself headed to Hamilton Library ANY OTHER DAY! Man, I'm always down there.. Today I picked up three books, you know there'll be easter holidays and all so they'll shut the place for a week. Will let you know about them when I'm done with them. Another thing related to BatB: there is absolutely no way she could manage to dodge people, chickens, buckets of water with her head stuck in her book! I mean, am I the only one that slams onto the lamp posts?

Hey, ciao.

Day #44

Today I read another book from Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door.. Some of the characters from her first novel have cameos in it and I loved that! Apparently I'm not really over that book yet and it was a little bit of shock to read their names again, but a good one, I guess. The story, though, follows different characters in San Francisco and from what I've been reading on the Internet, her upcoming third book will wrap up their story as well as that of Anna and of Isla, a girl briefly mentioned in Anna and TFK.
I probably liked the previous book better, but in general I had a good time reading this one as well.

I really liked the talking-through-windows thing, I think it was sweet. Aaaaand now I'm fangirling again! But seriously, Lola's weirdness aside - she never wears the same outfit twice and that implies plenty of costumes and wigs - I enjoyed it a lot! Another detail that I found super cute was Cricket's writing down notes on the back of his left hand to remember things and Lola's talking to the Moon. Overall a pleasant reading, with incredibly nice touches. I'll be looking forward to her next novel in July, Isla and the Happily Ever After.

Day #43

Today I read Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. It was, to quote Mr. John Green, ''one of the most genuinely romantic stories I've ever read'' and I couldn't put it down all day. To use my words, it was ''a really good one, with the best setting possible and very authentic in its many misunderstandings.''

The story was set in Paris and it brought back all the wonderful memories I cherish from the week I spent there two years ago with my friends and classmates. I mean, I KNEW the places they were talking about in the book: the Jardine du Luxemburg, Saint Étienne-du-Mont, Shakespeare And Company!!!! I was there!!! I could picture it almost perfectly.
I forgot there's also a bit set in the Père Lachaise Cemetry! Seriously, I can't ever stress enough on the fact that I WAS THERE with my friends just as Anna was there with hers! Is it normal that I'm this psyched about it? Why do I always get this involved when it comes to reading? I mean, where is my filter? Shouldn't I be able to detach myself in some ways?

Also, why did it take me so long to get interested in Neruda's love poetry?
SQUEEEEEE *fangirls*

Day #42

Today was regular.
I read some more of Catching Fire with Claire and literally couldn't keep my voice steady while going through the speech Katniss gives in 11 during the Victory Tour. If you do not understand what I'm talking about, it's probably because you've never read the series. Should that be the case, stop reading my blog and go get a copy! I think I already suggested you should do that..
By the way, how do I get that involved emotionally? I mean, it was awful hearing my voice crack and being forced to lower it to a whisper lest bursting into sobs any minute. I felt so exposed and stupid.

Guys, I don't want you to think I'm sitting on my a** all day, but since I realized whenever I mentioned to somebody that things were looking good on the job-finding side, inevitably things started getting bad - as in, I never got called back and all, I decided to just not let you part of the news anymore. At least on that matter. You will know once, and if, I find a job. It's easier for me.. I do not get my hopes too high and I don't get yours either.

Day #41

Sorry if I've been MIA and only posted something at this ungodly hour. I've been completely hooked to this amazing book: The Selection by Kiera Cass. If you are wondering, it is awesome!

Lord Voldemort on his Twitter page recommended it a while ago, and even though I liked the plot, I never tried to get hold of it before today. I'm glad I waited because now I'm only one month apart from its sequel The Elite.

The reviews that state a connection between these books and The Hunger Games series have a good point: both series focus on a televised competition on a rebels-in-a-riot backgound.
No wonder I liked this book very much, besides, as opposed to The Hunger Games, no one's died yet: it' s mostly about pretty dresses and the angst of being torn between two really cute guys. Jee, I hate being so predictable in my choice of novels. I don't even like love triangles that much!

Day #40

Australian Me, keeping it short since three days ago.
Today I attended a surprise birthday party for Casey. You may remember her birthday was yesterday. So yeah, I lied the other day when I said I wouldn't see her and gave her the gift I got her. I knew I'd be going to the party all along.
She was surprised indeed, but I can't get any credit on that. All the praises go to Ashlee and Alex's sister who organized it and overcame the last-minute misunderstandings perfectly, and Alex himself who brought Casey to the venue without her suspecting anything.

The place was this restaurant & bar in Teneriffe, called The London Club. It is a very nice place, with lovely wall paper and very nice furniture. We had tapas and pizza: I had a hard time with the Malay Chicken skewers because of course they were too spicy for me, but the eggplant and bacon pizza was superb! I loved the turkish bread dipped in either pesto or pumpkin cream - at least, I thought it was pumpkin. Ash had baked beautiful chocolate cupcakes for dessert. I got two.

In the afternoon, I followed an online course, sustained a little exam and got my RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) certificate - most of the restaurants and bars require the staff to have it. And now, with Claire I'm about to watch The Last Song. Since we saw The Hunger Games last week she has been kind of obsessed with Liam Hemsworth. Cannot really blame her.

Day #39

The coffee I had right after dinner has definitely kicked in, but it's not working quite the way I expected it to.
I'm up and around, but have no inspiration whatsoever. Of course I didn't expect it to inspire me, but the fact that my body doesn't feel tired, whilst my mind is slowly drifting towards uncounsciousness bugs me. I mean, shouldn't it at least keep me focused on what I'm doing? Whatever, I'll try to be short so that I can go to sleep.

Today I finished The Casual Vacancy - 'bout time - and I also watched A Very Potter Senior Year, which I talked about yesterday.
Done.

Just kidding. I loved the show. It was a staged reading, with songs and costumes as a real Starkid Production, but since it wasn't an actual play, the actors didn't know their lines by heart and had the scripts with them. Given this peculiar circumstance, they decided to release the script way before uploading the show on the Internet, so that you could actually know what they were meant to say, even though they stuttered it on video. Despite knowing already the lines and stuff, the delivery made it thousand times better! I was a little bit annoyed at Darren/Harry Potter's mic which kept booming in my headset, but whatever, I guess you cannot have it all.
I got emotional, especially towards the end, when they reprised the theme song ''Going Back To Hogwarts'' and ''Days Of Summer'' from the previous musicals and also had Voldemort to say wonderful things about the Harry Potter saga.. oh dear, I might tear again..
Harry Potter, helped me once. He taught me that it’s okay to let go. Let go of my hate. Care about people. Because of him, I have a new family. Guess that’s kind of what Harry Potter is all about. But there comes a time when you have to let even Harry Potter go. And that’s okay…

Oggi ho finito Il Seggio Vacante - era ora! - e ho guardato anche A Very Potter Senior Year come vi ho accennato avrei fatto ieri.
Finito.

Scherzo, ovviamente.

Day #38

So many things to tell you about today.
Nevertheless, I want to keep this entry short because a) I talk way too much for a normal person b) I have plenty of other things I have to attend to before going to sleep c) I really wish I could read the last few pages of The Casual Vacancy tonight. Hence, let us begin.

First things, first. Today is Friday, which means new episode of Glee and The Big Bang Theory. Seriously I'd love to jabber with you about Glee but I can't, because a) it'd probably take me ages b) is there anything else worth saying but OMG? c) ok, maybe I can throw in a ''who the hell is the girl Ryder is chatting with?!?''

Second things, second. Claire started working at 6pm this evening, so we hung out in the afternoon. It was sunny, so we went to the park, read a little bit of Catching Fire as excercise - mainly I just love listening to myself reading, swinged on a swing set, watched Glee S01E01 and while I was handing out more CVs she gave me some tips on 'how to sell yourself' (Spoiler alert: I'm not good at selling myself.) [<-- OMG! I just wrote something John Green would have written *pats herself out of pride*] Anyway, this gesture granted her the nickname of St. Claire of Concorezzo.

Third things, third. I'm pretty sure there was a third thing I wanted to share with you, but at the moment nothing comes to the mind. I guess I just summarized it in the second point. Uh, yes! Just thought of it, but play it along.
Starkid Productions (the original performers of A Very Potter Musical and Sequel)  tomorrow are releasing the last installment of their HP musicals, A Very Potter Senior Year. I just can't wait for it to be released, but at the same time, I feel sick to my stomach because the Potter saga ends again! How many time do I need to go through this - the books, the movies and now the musicals?! *sobs uncontrollably*
Oh, my, I just hope the Internet won't crush when I set to watch it.

Perciò, mettiamoci all'opera!

A Very Potter Senior Year. *singhiozza incontrollabilmente*

Day #37

Here's a little survey: has any of you been woken up at 4 o'clock by a text message last night? Anybody?
I was. My dad was telling me that the new Pope had finally been chosen and forgot about the time difference; I quickly dismissed the thought at that particular moment and went straight back to the greener pastures of sound sleep. When I woke up in the morning, I kind of felt annoyed at him for startling me, but I soon realized that it was the construction people who had started working way too early for my likings I was mad at.
As you may recollect, I sleptover at Karen's. The room I was sleeping in was really cosy: it was painted in this wonderful shade of coral and the many pillows on the bed were so soft and confortable I dropped asleep as soon as I crawled in. Sadly that didn't prevent the on-going construction of a new wing of the school behind Karen's place to be extremely loud at 6:30 in the morning. For sure it proved to be an effective allarm clock!
The morning turned a whole lot better as soon as Karen offered me some of the banana bread she had baked yesterday evening. So, that was good.

Before leaving, I gave Casey the little gift I got for her birthday. She will be turning 21 this Saturday, but since I'm intruding too much already, I though I'd better stay clear of the family celebrations for the weekend. Besides, I didn't want to wait and give it to her next time I'd be invited over, when she might have already got it herself.. Yes, I am that nuts.

I spent the rest of the day reading. I have only a hundred pages left to finish The Casual Vacancy now. It took me about two weeks to get to the point were it was just too good to stop reading, but yeah, I eventually got there. I haven't finished it yet, of course, but since I'm a terrible terrible reader, I already know what is going to happen because I flipped through the pages. Oh man! That is going to be something! Wow.
I would just like to spend a few words on this woman's capability of wrapping up and matching all the threads she's opened throughout the book. She is a genius.
Naturally, I was more than shocked to read Jo Rowling writing about drugs, prostitution, rape and other stuff you would have NEVER expected her to write about knowing her for the world she created with Harry Potter.
I just love how each and every character in the book has his own way of coping with what happens in his life; has his dreams, fantasies, secrets and that you get to hear directly from them their own account of the story. It is messy, that is kind of the drawback you may get for having close to 20 different narrators, but once you get who's who, you do just fine.
Having been brought up in a small town where pretty much everybody knows everybody else I was fascinated by the things going on in fictional Pagford. All the resentment, suspicion, treachery, stuff hidden you'd rather not know about, it makes you think about what might happen in your place, especially when you find yourself so far away.

Parecchio efficace come sveglia!

Day #36

I writing to you from Karen's. We had dinner and later I sat with Ash and Casey on the couch to watch the new episode of Revenge. As usual I got a little bit too carried away by the plot and when Emily, the main character, did something supid I found myself shouting 'What?!' in the middle of the living room. Of course, as Karen pointed out, it wasn't necessary, but that's just the way I watch TV shows, I try to contain myself, but never succeed.

Tonight I'm staying over at their place and Tony will drive me home tomorrow as he goes off for work. At the moment they're broadcasting Pretty Woman on TV and that's what Tony, Karen and I are watching. Man, Richard Gere was so handsome!

This is the second movie I watched today. This afternoon I saw The Kids Are All Right, because I'm totally not checking out each and every movie starring Josh Hutcherson.

Day #35

Today I got Claire to watch The Hunger Games. When I told her about the plot of the only book I had brought with me from home she looked at me funny. When I told her about the plot of the book I'd got in London to bring to Australia, she looked at me even funnier.

I understand that a dystopian novel about 24 kids having to fight in an arena to the death in a televised competition can sound a little bit harsh and cruel, AND that a book about cancer kids in love can be even more depressing, BUT you should give them a chance if I grant you they're two of the best books I've ever read!

Anyway, it was only after she saw Liam Hemsworth starring as one of the main characters that she decided to go through the whole movie! Seriously, and I still wonder why people pick Gale over Peeta?! *shakes her head* Don't you see that it's only about his looks!
I will make her see my point. I will make her see sense, you'll see.

I got her to read the books as well, she got hooked and wants to know what happens to the Katniss-Gale relationship.. little does she know.. and so do you, if you haven't read the books! You should totally, by the way. Go get them!

Oggi ho convinto Claire a guardare Hunger Games.

Day #34

I'm dead tired.
Today Claire and I went downtown and spent nearly two hours in a store that sells books and dvds - I could get lost in those places and never want to go back to real life, then we spent some more time (another half an hour) looking through birthday wishes cards and eventually grabbed a coffe at Starbucks and set on our way to visit Roma Park. We had really few moments left before the sun set, but we managed to take a couple of pictures anyway. We had so much fun!
Apparently we weren't happy enough with our afternoon of strolling and standing, because we decided to go out jogging just before dinner. We didn't jog long, something like 20 minutes, but I've never been too good at it and with the wrong shoes and blisters all over your toes I would have dared you do the same!
Dinner was really nice: Paolo, Martina and Nicola cooked for us! Awesome! Now I'm off to bed, see you!

Delizioso! Ora vado a letto, ci si vede!

Day #33

Second and last day of the conference I attended this weekend. It was good.
It began with a Worship given it was Sunday. I thought they would hold a Service, but that was my mistake, it was more like catechism. We did sing Shout to the Lord - which is one of my favourite Service song ever - though, so that was good. It didn't hurt and Skip Ross (aka Ken the Minister) said nice things.

So, what I forgot to tell you about Mr. Ross is that he has such a weird laughter. I mean, his whole face wrinkles and he beams like hell but NO SOUND escapes his mouth. He has such a silent laugh!! Sometimes he'd snort, as if he were trying to take a breath to laugh even harder but not a single 'AH' would come out!!! Unbelievable! I mean, you look at him laughing and for the first couple of times you are like 'WTFish! What is wrong with him?!' but eventually it gets under your skin and just looking at that tiny plastic-faced man laughing makes you crack up as well!
He's really an awesome speaker, knows all the tricks to get the attention of the audience and the things he says not only make sense, but are really helpful, they make you think, you know.
I took down notes today as well. I especially loved it when he quoted - actually read it all - Oh, The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss. Here are some bits that I love to no end:
Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You are on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
and then:
Out there things can happen,
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and footsy as you.

And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

OH!
THE PLACES YOU WILL GO!
or better:
Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Except when they don't.
Because, sometimes, they won't.

I'm afraid that some times
you'll play lonely games too.
Games you can't win,
'cause you'll play against you.
Oh, well, just go and check out the whole thing! Just a last bit, because it really worths while knowing:
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Congratulazioni!
Oggi è il tuo giorno.

Sei alla volta di Posti Importanti!
Parti, scansati di torno!

Hai cervello nella testa
e piedi nelle scarpe,
scegli,
puoi andare da qualsiasi parte.
Sei da solo. E sai quello che sai.
TU sei quello che decide dove vai.
 Pessimo. Ma continuo imperterrita:
Là fuori le cose succedono
a quelli che
han piedi e cervello
come te.

E quando le cose cominciano ad accadere
non preoccuparti, vai
e anche tu, sulla tua strada,
prima o poi accadrai

OH SAI,
I POSTI DOVE ANDRAI!

Temo a volte capiterà

Day #32

As I mentioned to you yesterday, today I went to a conference with Karen and Tony. It was one of those business/motivational conferences that many many times you see in movies and that personally I thought happened just to other people.

So, here's a funny thing. I actually do not know how I feel about today.
I mean, we had three sessions. One in the morning from 10:30 to 13 and then another from 13:30 to 15:30 and then the last one in the evening from 19:30 to 22:30 and this is how my thoughts went:
10:30 This is a joke. Why am I listening to the older version of Barbie and Ken?
11:30 I do not want to get brain-washed. I am scared.
12:00 I really do hope this product presentation won't take too long. Nice abs.
12:30 Oh, it'd be lovely to join the volunteers for the Special Olympics in New Castle next December.
13:30 Y U make me keep standing, clapping, sitting back, standing, clapping, sitting back? *One Direction songs plays while people get on to the stage* YAY, let's sing along because I know all the lyrics by heart
15:00 Wow! This Ken guy knows what he's talking about!
Pretty random, uh?

Then, I spoke to Karen and Tony and tried to better understand what the speakers said this morning and afternoon. Turned out that the ''business'' they'd been talking about, was some kind of  Costco situation, where you buy your membership, but then can buy products with whole sale rates and a whole lot of other perks - which made it sound less creepy, hence allowing me to give the benefit of the doubt to the evening speakers.

20:00 I'm even more convinced that Mr. Ross (previously known as Ken) knows a lot about people. I take down precious notes.
21:00 Still not interested, but you have to acknowledge that, either all these people came here to set me up, or I'm the only fool in the room who hasn't got a clue in life.
22:00 Y U still making me standing, clapping, sitting back, standing, clapping, sitting back?
22:30 Just let me go home, please, I feel soooo sleepy.

And that, my friends, is the state I'm still in at the moment: terribly sleepy. So, if you'll excuse me, I'll just go to bed.

13:30 Perché continuate a farmi alzare, applaudire, sedere, alzare, applaudire, sedere?
A caso, in pratica!

22:00 Perché mi state ancora facendo alzare, applaudire, sedere, alzare, applaudire, sedere?

Day #31

I should probably point out that it has been more than a month since I got to Brisbane.
With that said, let me fangirl just for a few moments over the promotional Capitol Portraits for Catching Fire. OMG. Oh. My. God.
I can't handle this till November! I was just talking with Casey the other day, and we both couldn't accept the fact we'll have to wait another 9 months!! That's a whole pregnancy! By the way, she confessed she changed her mind about Gale. Not that she likes Peeta now, but she doesn't like Gale either. Which is progress, I guess.
Here are the promo posters for Peeta and Finnick. Oh my. You can't see me now, but I'm beaming like an idiot. I NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE RIGHT NOW. Okay, I'll settle for just the trailer for the moment. But I need it now, like in the next two minutes.
*
Still waiting for my trailer.
I'm afraid it is a lost cause.
Thank goodness there are Glee and The Big Bang Theory to fill the void. After almost a month, Glee returned. It was a pretty neat episode that of course left me emotionally shattered. Oh why, Naya Rivera, you need to deliver your lines in such a perfect way? I was really proud of Darren Criss, my baby, because he started off with just a guest star role in season 2 and today he was the lead singer in the 500th musical number of the show! [By the way, 500!!! Wow! That is some milestone!]
I'll shut up about Glee now, but not before pointing out that Lea Michele is something.

This weekend I'm attending a conference with Karen and Tony, but I haven't really understood what it'll be about, so I guess I'll just update you on that tomorrow.
Peace out.

[A proposito, 500!! Parliamone!]

Day #30

On Tuesday I went to the library. I had to return The Casual Vacancy because I could only keep it for one week. When I found another copy on the shelf I decided to get that one instead of renewing the book I had, because I thought it'd be easier for them. Couldn't be more wrong.
The lady at the counter saw I had the same title twice and thought I was confused, which I wasn't, took both my books, thus confounding me for real, and then handed me back the right book. Only that the book she gave me was not the right one. She had given me back the same book I was returning. But I only found out about it yesterday, when I got an email that said I had to pay the fine for not returning the book on time.
I was furious. Especially because the lady had treated me as if I didn't know what I was doing AND because thanks to her I had to go back to the library again this week, instead of just going the next. As the Grumpy Cat on Twitter once said, 'Some people deserve a high five. In the face. With a chair'.

I saw the movie Struck by Lightning today. The screenplay has been written by Chris Colfer, Kurt Hummel in Glee. It was nice, I enjoyed it. I knew about the plot, but when the actual lightning struck I had no idea it'd be like that! Some lines are really good, I loved the many puns Chris' character used and the overall ironic foreshadowing he came up with in the script.

I will go to bed now, because I feel terribly sleepy. Not before getting a glass of water, though. Had dinner with Paolo and Martina early this evening. They cooked - I offered tomatoes and later peaches - and they both love black pepper. Thirstyyyy. Tasted awesome, of course.

E come me ne sono accorta, vi chiederete?
Ho seteeeeeee. La cena è stata deliziosa, ovviamente.

Day #29

I am soooo tired that posting this entry is taking me ages.
I type one sentence at a time with huge breaks in between.
I guess I'll go take a shower and give it another try later.
*
Just to give you a sense of the state I'm in, it's been twenty minutes since I typed the word 'later' and I haven't moved an inch from where I'm sitting on my bed. I wonder where is my will? Did I leave it at Queen St. markets today?
*
I eventually forced myself to move. I took my shower. But it hasn't helped me with the brain block at all. Okay, I'll try to keep it short and simple.
I worked at the market today, that's why I'm exhausted. The weather sucked. But all in all, I had a good time.

Man, I can't believe I can't find anything else to say. My brain is able to form only one coherent thought at the moment, that is to say 'GO TO SLEEP'. I should probably listen to it, sounds like a smart guy. Oh God, you know you have it bad when you personify your brain.
Whatever. Please, if you're a shrink, just don't mind me. Please, if you are a friend, understand me. Please, if you are my South Korean reader, hey hi there! What's up?

I should probably go. It'll do no good if I linger on here longer. Just wanted to share the beauty I had the privilege to appreciate two Wednesdays in a row. The stand next to Enzo's has the most beautiful little pastry ever! Each and every one of them is a small masterpiece and needless to say, they taste awesome. I had passion fruit cheesecake both last week and today because I'm a sucker for cheesecake, deal with it. I also got some to share with Sabrina, Claire and Paolo. Here's a pic.
Probabilmente dovrei andare ora.
